Infants may be born recognizing perfect pitch.   According to a San Jose Mercury News article of March 6,2001, a study at Univ. of Wisconsin found infants to focus more attention when played tones that were in perfect pitch.   The speculation was that the same hard-wiring that enables language might also enable babies to recognize perfect pitch.  But unless they practice that application they tend to lose that ability.  These findings are consistent with other research that found learning musical instruments at a very young age helps develop absolute pitch.

Of course, your piano needs to be in tune to experiment with the above hypothesis.
